Setup Factory is designed to create setup wizards. What is really impressive about this application is the extensive set of options it provides, which will let you build highly customized deployment packages. It supports distributing not only software, but also images, data files, documents, etc.
Despite the evident complexity of developing software, Setup Factory can make the process of creating installation packages much easier. In fact, much of this usability comes from the choice of a wizard as a means for entering the required data. This is certainly not as frightening as filling out lots of forms, when you do not even know where to begin. However, you may choose not to use the wizard and provide the data the usual way. In addition to entering such information as where to deploy the files, software requirements and session variables, Setup Factory also allows using a scripting language to give you a total control of the installation process. The packages can be distributed as single files and Setup Factory provides a series of standard sizes for standard distribution media, such as discs, e-mail or the Web.
An outstanding feature of this application is the extreme care about the visual aspect of the created wizards. In this respect, this software allows you to design custom screens for some of the steps of the wizards; and even more than that, it also lets you use different skins so that the appearance of those screens matches that of a specific operating system. Besides, at all times you will be able to preview the results.
The high number of new features included in this version evidences the developers’ determination to continuously improve their product. In this regard, we can mention that the program now supports creating 64-bit setups. They have also implemented an improved data compression algorithm to make packages smaller. The program also allows you to distribute multiple installs in a single project.
As a whole, Setup Factory is an excellent application. Its developers seem not to have forgotten a single detail necessary to create a successful deployment package. For the standard user, however, the price may seem too high. So, if you cannot afford such expensive software, you can find cheaper tools at the expense of quality.
